First Grade is where the fundamentals take hold. Students move from recognizing numbers to working with two-digit operations, place value, and early measurement. In ELA, the focus shifts from phonics and letter sounds toward reading with comprehension and writing with purpose. Science builds curiosity through observation and hands-on inquiry across living things, weather, and light and sound. History & Civics starts close to home — family, community, and citizenship — then widens to American symbols, historical figures, geography, and an understanding of past and present.

Mathematics
Builds number sense and computation skills from counting and place value through addition, subtraction, measurement, and geometry.
